Jesus Helps Us Understand God

Big Idea: Jesus helps us understand God.

 

Observation: God wants us to know Him (Heb 1:1-2a)

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son… – Hebrews 1:1-2a NIV

 

Observation: Jesus is the perfect expression of who God is (Heb 1:2b-3)

but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. – Heb 1:2-3 NIV

Looking to the Cross

• Jesus washes his disciples feet (John 13:1-17)

• Jesus refuses to respond to violence with violence (Luke 22:47)

• Jesus offers forgiveness from the cross  (Luke 23:34)

Reflection Exercise:

• Make a list of your assumptions about God.

• Read the Gospel of Mark

• Compare your list to what you read Mark
