Uncertainty

Message by Josh Mutter– May 15, 2022

Big Idea:  The events of Easter help us understand what happens to Jesus’ followers when we die.

Followers of Jesus can trust that we will not be forgotten.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:1-6 NIV

Jesus gives us the hope of rest on the other side of death.

… “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” – Luke 23:42-43 NIV

“Paradise” here is not…the final resting place of either Jesus or the man asking the question…But “Paradise,” [is] the interim state, the blissful garden of refreshment prior to the final destination… – NT Wright, The Day The Revolution Began

Followers of Jesus become a physical part of God’s new creation.

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. Matthew 27:50-53 NIV

Conclusion: Jesus gives us certainty about what is to come.
