Engaging Our Neighbours

Message by Joshua Mutter – September 25, 2022

Our Vision: A vibrant community of followers of Jesus that serves our neighbours by meeting needs and showing love.

Big Idea: We want to be making a positive impact on our neighbours.

The love that we have for our neighbours is an expression of our love for God.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40 NIV

To love our neighbours is to respond to their needs in a tangible way.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after the orphans and widows in their distress… – James 1:27 NIV

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.  If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. – James 2:14-17 NIV

Application:

  •  Seek to be present in our naturally occurring relationships and respond appropriately.
  • As a community, we can work together to love our neighbours in ways that we can’t alone.
