PROVERBS: WISDOM & FAMILY

Message by Josh Mutter – July 30, 2023

Big Idea: Family relationships contain the power to help us thrive

Lesson 1: We have the power to help our partner flourish.

Proverbs 12:4 NIV  A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

Lesson 2: We have the responsibility to nurture our kids.

Proverbs 22:6 NIV  Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Proverbs 29:15 NLT  To discipline a child produces wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child.

Lesson 3: As children, how we relate to our parents matters.

Proverbs 23:25 NIV  May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!

Lesson 4: Our family interactions leave lasting impressions.

Proverbs 18:19 NIV  A brother wronged is more unyielding than a fortified city; disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel.

Proverbs 17:14 NIV Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.

Colossians 3:12-14 NIV  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
