Dr. Cheryl van der Mark and Laurens van der Mark together with their 5 children have been missionaries in Haiti for the past 3 years. Cheryl a Doctor of Chiropractic, served as the Medical Coordinator and Health Care Outreach Coordinator at Mission of Hope. Her role involved administration of the mission hospital, direction of mobile medical clinics, training of Haitian doctors and nurses and development of a community health education program. Laurens an OPP officer, managed Mission of Hope’s 75 acre site which includes a school, church, orphanage, hospital and distribution warehouse. His role involved site maintenance, construction development and training of skilled labour to Haitian men. Their family are earthquake survivors and were instrumental in the medical and other disaster relief efforts in the greater Port-au-Prince area following the earthquake of 2010. As a family, they seek to follow the radical message of Jesus Christ to focus their lives around other-centered, compassionate, action oriented love.
