One of our senior high students, Brooklyn, along with a senior high sponsor, Rhianne, kicked off our Project Hope initiative in conjunction with Out of the Cold, a program that meets basic physical needs of shelter, food and warm clothing, and deep human needs of compassion, dignity and feelings of self worth. Out of the Cold provides hot meals and overnight accommodations in downtown KW churches for homeless guests, from November to March.

Brooklyn arranged and received donations of toiletries, candies, socks, crackers and Tim Horton’s gift cards. Last night, despite being on the tail end of an ice storm, Brooklyn and Rhianne, along with helpers Pastor Todd and Kiana, packed 107 bags of goodies. The four of them handed out the bags to the homeless men who arrived at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Waterloo last night for a warm meal and emergency shelter. There were so many homeless guests that a second site had to be opened to accommodate the women guests.
