Happy April 1st Westheights!

No, it is not an April fools joke that you are getting our weekly “Friday” communication on a Thursday. With this weekend being Easter, we decided to bump our communications up a day. This year both our Good Friday (April 2) and Easter Sunday (April 4) services will be online on our YouTube channel and will begin at 10:30 AM. If you wish to participate in communion on Good Friday, you will want to have your elements (red juice and cracker/bread) ready at the beginning of the service.

The Community Centre Collection

We recently began collecting items to be distributed by the Forest Heights Community Centre. Check out this video for a reminder of what we collected in March. Over the next two weeks, we will be asking you to consider purchasing:

  1. adult diapers
  2. handsoap
  3. shampoo/conditioner, or
  4. baby wipes

Donations can be left in the bin located on the ramp to the church office.

Tax-Receipts

Tax receipts were sent out at the end of February. If you have not received yours, please let us know ASAP by emailing office@westheights.org

Sermon Follow-Up – For Our Bible-Keeners

For the past two Sundays, our teaching times have been focused on Matthew 26:6-13, when Jesus is anointed by a woman leading up to her death. In my message, I referred to this woman as being Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus even though Matthew doesn’t name her. Some of our keeners picked up on this and asked about it. Here is a short answer.

Jesus is anointed in all four gospels by a woman (Matthew 26:6-13, Mark 14:1-10, Luke 7:36-50, John 12:1-11). As we read through these accounts, we notice that Matthew, Mark & John each set this story during the Passover, in the town of Bethany and include similar conversations about the poor. My belief is that these are the same instance and because of this, I drew on some of the details from John’s record of events and he identifies Mary as the one who anoints him.

Prayer Requests

If you would have something that you would like us to pray for, email your prayer request to prayerrequest@westheights.org.  Prayer requests will be forwarded to Westheights folks who have expressed a desire to support us in prayer. If you would like to receive these prayer requests please email office@westheights.org and we will add you to the distribution list.

Virtual Foyer

This Sunday we are once again having a virtual foyer by using Zoom so that we can see and say ‘hi” to one another after the service. To join in right after this Sunday’s service, simply click this link.
