I mentioned in a recent sermon that I read a wonderful book loaned to me from Meg Slater called Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy by Eric Metaxas. I had read some of Bonhoeffer writings in the past and considered him to be a remarkable prophet for the Christian church so I was intrigued to read this book. (more…)

I had heard about Greg Boyd. He is a pastor who made the news in recent years because he preached a series of sermons that caused twenty percent of his church to leave in upset during one sermon series. It wasn’t the typical reasons that people leave churches that you often hear about today like traditional v. contemporary or liberal v. conservative. (more…)

Last night I finished Brian McLaren’s A New Kind of Christian. I am reading it for a BIC Core Course I am taking next week. If you are not aware, Brian McLaren is part of the emergent/post-modern church so it gives you an idea of where he is coming from. (more…)

Meg loaned me a book from Jack Hayford called Penetrating the Darkness. I really enjoyed this book on praying against the forces of the enemy. I recommend the book. If you read the book, recognize that Jack Hayford comes from a charismatic perspective in theology. (more…)
