More musings on memorizing Scripture: Have you taken up the challenge?

It’s amazing how God uses Scripture to bring everything into focus, if only for a moment—to infuse life and purpose into the everyday must-dos, the everyday ho-hums…You know what I mean—those tasks and delights and frustrations that otherwise fill every second! –leaving us reaching, amused, weary…

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.  (Hebrews 4:12, Amplified)

Bible reading

It’s His voice that does it. His voice that we crave, that stops us cold and compels us to move on—to walk away changed. The whisper of our Creator, from whom nothing is hidden, a voice filled with life and power…

Reading and meditating on the verses I’ve chosen has been so much more than just a practical way to get to know the Bible. Every day God is using them to speak to me about who He is, what comes next, what’s inside, what needs giving up…

In the end, I have more questions—am perplexed by the challenges… But suddenly, I know what I must do, or at the very least, with what attitude I should do it. And even if I am doubtful of my own ability to get there, I find myself hopeful and motivated…Perhaps the idea that the Almighty cares enough about the details of my life to communicate with me about them is reason enough to trust…

And here’s what He’s saying this week:

But the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere.

James 3:17, CEV
