Good morning Westheights,

Sometimes the dreariness of winter can be the easiest thing to focus on, we get it. In an attempt to look beyond it, what points of beauty can we see in today? The wonder of snow glistening in sunlight, the giggles of children playing on a snow hill… may God show us where to see pockets of joy despite the darker days.

Here’s the joke of the week!

What does a gingerbread man put on his bed?

While you think on the answer, here’s some weekly announcements!

Community Centre Collection

The Community Centre Collection is back! This time we are looking for size 3-6 diapers and baby wipes. Donations can be left in the bin located on the ramp to the office.

In-Person Ministries

Over the past 2 years, our Board has regularly discussed how we are navigating the ongoing pandemic. At our January meeting, the Board discussed the ongoing current circumstances with the Omicron variant, the impact the pandemic is having on individuals and families, as well as our desire to provide some consistency in our programming and not changing every few weeks. In the end we concluded that what would be best is that our ministries remain exclusively online at least until the end of February. We will review the situation again at the February Board meeting.

We continue to be committed to meeting in-person and believe that this is what so many of us are longing for. But for now, we are grateful for technology that allows us to stay connected and engaged and we encourage you to connect as you are able.

Job Posting

We’re Hiring! – We have once again posted for the position of Director of Student and Young Adult Ministries. You can find the job description here. If you have any questions, please speak to Pastor Josh.

Family Literacy Day

Tomorrow (Thursday January 27) is Family Literacy Day! Celebrate the day by enjoying your latest read, whether you read hardcopy, digitally or listen to audible books (all counts as reading)! We’ve asked the staff what they’re current reading—

Pastor Josh – The Firm by Josh Grisham

Pastor Char – Rehearsing Scripture by Anna Carter Florence

Sarah – Everything Happens for a Reason (and Other Lies I’ve Loved) by Kate Bowler

Pastor Terry – How the Word is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America by Clint Smith

Westheights Directory

Last day to sign up for the directory is this Friday (January 28). A reminder if you haven’t already done so to set your profile up for our directory. If you haven’t received an email invite to the directory and want to be a part of it, please send Sarah Brnjas an email  (Or if email isn’t your thing, you can call her at 519-741-1986 extension 805).

Even if you’re not wanting to join the directory, if you could look to make sure your contact information is correct in our system and update if needed, that’d be greatly appreciated! Instructions on how to use the system to do both these steps can be found here. If you hit any technology snags, please email Sarah Brnjas.

Keep a look out for next week’s newsletter on how to access the directory!

Westheights Meal Ministry

We are looking for folks to join our meal ministry. This is a ministry that shows love and care through providing meals to families in our church when some meals would be appreciated (i.e. birth of a child). If you are willing to be on the list of folks we ask to help, please let  know.

Sunday Services Online

We will still be continuing virtually on Youtube. We encourage everyone to join us after the Sunday service to our virtual foyer on Zoom. To join in, click here.

Church Office

During this stage of the pandemic, we have closed our church office. The staff can be reached via email or by calling the church.

Prayer Requests

If you would have something that you would like us to pray for, email your prayer request to prayerrequest@westheights.org.  Prayer requests will be forwarded to Westheights folks who have expressed a desire to support us in prayer. If you would like to receive these prayer requests please email office@westheights.org and we will add you to the distribution list.
