Give More: For House Church or Personal Study
1So this week Michelle Brennemam gave us a great reminder about why giving is so important for anyone who is trying to live as a follower of Christ. This was, of course, followed with a chance for all of us to give in a practical way. I think that rather then looking at things primarily in a devotional way, we can learn much more on this topic by looking back on our own past experiences. (more…)
Spend Less: A House Church or personal study
0This Sunday John Cressman gave us a great practical message about the way that we look at our finances. Do you have financial troubles? Or have you had to dig your way out of a chasm of debt? Whether you have or not, let’s talk about the benefits and advantages to spending less. (more…)
Worship Fully: A House Church or Personal Study
0This week Tom talked about the idea of worshiping fully, which is the first theme in Advent Conspiracy. We have a chance now to have a more community wide discussion on this topic, whether you’re part of a House Church, or whether you’re on your own. So open up your Bibles to Matthew Chapter 2 and let’s get started. (more…)
Core Values- Pursuing Peace (cont’d)
0So I had a great time last night. Instead of moving onto the next core value we ended up just talking more about this defining point about pursuing peace. As we talked about last week, the core value for pursuing peace keeps a holistic view on things like valuing life. I loved the part where we got into how we, practically, can become involved with ‘non-violent resolution to conflict’ in a practical way. (more…)
Core Values: Week 6
1Morning everyone. So this week we were talking about pursuing peace. The core value says this, “We value all human life and promote forgiveness, understanding, reconciliation, and non-violent resolution of conflict.” We had a fairly small group this week, so I’m looking forward to other input into this issue. (more…)
Core Values: Week 5
0Hello again everyone. So we had a great discussion last night about this core value. It says this, “We value integrity in relationships and mutual accountability in an atmosphere of grace, love, and acceptance.” This is the one called, “belonging to a community of faith.” There was a lot of great stuff that came up during this discussion. (more…)
Core Values: Week 4
1So this week’s Core Value was about following Jesus. This one says “We value wholehearted obedience to Christ Jesus through the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.” I think that this is one of those subjects which seems really basic, and then blows up in our face really quick. (more…)
Core Values: Week Three
1So this week’s core value is about worship. It reads like this. “We value heartfelt worship to God that is God-honoring, Spirit-led, and life-changing.” It’s unfortunate, but the discussion on worship has been dominated by the debate over style as long as I’ve been alive. (more…)
BIC Core Values: Week 2
3Hey everyone. So this is the second discussion on the core values of the Brethren in Christ. This week we actually had a games night, which was awesome, so I figured that on the blog we could discuss the core value which was actually missed. (more…)
BIC Core Values: Week 1
0Hello, everyone. So our House Church has just begun our series on the core values of the Brethren in Christ Church and we decided that it would be great to open things up for a community discussion. So we’re going to start a weekly blog conversation as we work through all the ten core values.
House Church Groups

House Church Re-Start
0When Meredith and I first started coming to Westheights, one of the first things we did was join a House Church. We found that there was no greater way to get to know other people in our church, develop friendships, and get connected with what was going on. (more…)

Reflection
Read 1 John 16-19
This passage is an amazing description of what it means to love each other. This passage tells us that we know what true love is, only because Christ laid down his life for us. This is followed by the command that we ought to lay down our lives for each other. Many times the greatest illustrations of love is when one person gives up their life for another, but is this the only way that Christ laid down his life for us? (more…)

Reflection
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:12-18
Paul wrote to the Thessalonians in order to encourage them in the face of persecution. This is an important theme through both letters addressed to them. I think that Paul understood the need of community, and the presence of other believers and the effect we can have on each other. That is why we find this particular passage near the end of this letter. Paul is giving them one final, solid reminder that together they are better. He gives us several different ways we can ensure that our community is growing and effective. (more…)

0Reflection
Read 2 Timothy 1:7
Strength is not something we talk about much in the church. We talk about grace, wisdom, love friendships and family, but strength, power, justice, and sovereignty sometimes gets ignored. This is strange since we believe in a God who is absolutely and completely all powerful. But things don’t stop there. The Bible makes it clear that all the power of God is made available to us through the Holy Spirit. What does this mean for the way we approach everyday life? What does this mean for our confidence in the way we approach everyday things? (more…)
